WHAT ARE BLOOD VALUES RELATED TO SODIUM?
Addendum to previous post - can anyone provide the blood and urine test results from Pugh related to sodium levels and kidney function? This the science behind Mom's condition and would give us quite a bit of information. When I get my blood test results back from my internest, I get what my levels are and what range they should be in.

I called the dr's office yesterday and am waiting for them to return my call today. Will ask for all the details when they call. Maybe they can send us a copy of the complete blood analysis.
Was at a meeting all day. Didn't hear back from Pugh's office with answers to our questions and I'll be out next week. I think I know the kind of report you're talking about and I'm sure they'd send it to you or to Mom at Ivanhoe if you asked them to. Don't know specific factors that relate to sodium so you should probably ask for that also. She's OK for now so if you want to wait till I return, I'll be happy to call them again.
P.S. Mom didn't have a urine test, just blood test. (cholesterol and kidney function test as explained to me that day.)
Pugh's office called me last week to relay that potassium and kidney function are fine but LDL is too low. The Simbastat (sp) was cut in half to 40mg from 80mg.
As you may recall from a previous email I sent many months ago, Pugh and I discussed at length the issue of sodium, fluid intake, and diuretics. It is an extremely complicated matter considering her medical condition. The body needs sodium so we could cause harm by restricting it. By the same token, ingesting extreme amounts of sodium , in Mom's case, is not a good thing either. The questions is, what is too restrictive and what is too much for one in her condition and at her age? The medical community doesn't really know. You can spend a considerable amount of time and effort to restrict sodium and the elderly patient then stops eating - not good - obviously. By the same token, you don't ever want to add salt to dishes - there is plenty of sodium in regular foods. These are Pugh's thoughts, paraphrased. He cannot tell us the amount of sodium Mom should get each day - no doctor can. Quite frankly, we have much larger concerns than sodium. Considering the quantity of food Mom is taking in now,I don't think sodium is an issue.
